LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation Review
Hello, lovelies. Looks like the British summertime is finally on its way. I’m writing this whilst thinking I should be out enjoying the very little sun that we have had recently, but I have a little review of the LA Girl Pro Matte Foundation that I want to share with you all.
Before we get into it, this foundation is for you full coverage matte girls, this is not a subtle foundation, this will cover a multitude of sins.
**update edit. Ok, lovelies, as I write this little update excerpt it is now late August and I have to say, after using this for the past few months this foundation is now in my top 3. I can confidently say, to date, this is the best drugstore pried foundation I have used. This is better than Doule Wear if you are an Estee girl. Highly, highly recommended.
Let’s get to the review
So the foundation in question has just launched here in the UK. There was much buzz around the Pro Coverage Illuminating version that launched last year, and I heard so many good things about it, but with my oily skin, I knew this wouldn’t work for me.
I’ve had this for around 3 weeks now and as always, I like to give products a full test run before I post my thoughts; I have also been wearing this daily now for two weeks.
You know me, I am always on the lookout for good drugstore priced makeup, so when I saw this was available in the UK I had to get my hands on it to see if it was as good as my favourite Laura Mercier foundation.
Ok, so what’s the scoop
First things first. LA Girl. If you haven’t heard of them, are a US drugstore brand, that is now becoming widely available in the UK. I have a few products from them and have always been impressed with their formulations. The foundation is said to be matte and long-wearing with a medium to full finish.
‘With a soft and suede-like finish, PRO.matte Foundation will have you covered and shine-free all day. Creamy, liquid formula provides smooth and buildable coverage for both day and night time wear. Minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for an even, soft focus effect. Paraben free formula with added vitamin E, B5 & sunflower oil’. lagirlusa.com
It’s £10.00 and us UK ladies can buy this online, head over to my Shop My Instagram page HERE to get your hands on it.
Firstly, the packaging feels higher end. It comes in a glass bottle, with a pump (thank the heavens), which is better than most I’ve seen on more expensive products. With this, you really have a lot of control over how much is dispensed with the pump they have used.
The consistency is quite thick, but as to be expected from a full coverage matte foundation. On the first try, I used my usual primer and used a brush to apply. Big mistake, this is one of the only foundations that I think applies awfully with a brush. That said, use a beauty blender and it blends beautifully.
I know us over 35 gals do worry about wearing full coverage foundations, but with the right tools and blended correctly, you can wear whichever foundation you wish. I cannot recommend enough to use a blender with this, the brush application left me looking cakey and muddy.
Shade selection. Ok, so not the best range, at least from what you can get your hands on here in the UK, but I was lucky and the shade I choose which is Medium Beige, suits my medium yellow undertone perfectly. In fact, I’ve just gone a lighter shade of blonde with my hair, which usually washes my skin out, but this warms my complexion perfectly.
This is a medium to full coverage, which for me is perfect as I don’t like anything too heavy, but does build very easily if you do like a fuller coverage foundation. This covers my pigmentation enough as I do like to have some of my own skin showing through.
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know my day starts super early, so I need something that is going to last. This foundation no lie looks just as good when I arrive home as it did when applied. Ok, so there is a little breakdown, but nothing that I don’t see with my Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion. I do set this with a setting powder and finish with a mattifying setting spray. Two products I recommend are the Laura Mercier Setting Powder, and the Urban Decay De-Slick, especially if you have super oily skin.
I have tried a ton of drugstore matte foundations, and some I like and some I hate, but this little guy comes highly recommended by me and for the price, it’s amazing. Seriously guys, give this a try, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Below is the official statement on animal testing from the LA Girl website, although, I don’t see the PETA logo on any of their product packaging.
“Please be assured that we do not test on animals. Beauty 21 Cosmetics is a proud member of the cruelty-free PETA organization”.
Well, that’s it from me, I should go and enjoy some sun.
