Beauty Blogging Integrity
I’ve read some articles recently that question the integrity of beauty bloggers – which I guess I’d never really thought about before.
Sure, I know that some people will work with any brand just for free products. Or rave about a particular item just because they are being paid. But the integrity of bloggers? This is something I had never really myself questioned.
I make no secret of the fact that I do get to trial products for free. Well when I say free, they aren’t ever really free. Not when you add up the time invested to trial a product and then generate content, but what I don’t do is compromise the integrity of said content.
Here’s an example.
If you are a huge Insta junkie, you may have noticed that at times, you see a big surge in a particular product being talked about or shared on a large number of accounts. This is a perfectly normal social marketing strategy, and for a brand it is a relatively easy and cheap way to get your product seen by the masses.
In the past I have, and I am currently working on such a campaign, but I never accept a product with a guarantee of a feature on my blog or social platforms.
I will give you another example.
I recently had communication’s from a skincare company looking to promote a new product, which in all honesty, I loved the sound of! It was right up my street and I am sure I would have raved about the product. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to try it or talk about it with you all. When I explained to their social media team that I was happy to review the product, but would only share on my platforms if I really liked it, they went quiet and I heard no more.
So why am I pointing this out?
I never want my readers to question my content. I want you to know that any product or advise I share is genuine, and I am not here to make a quick buck or accept products just to be seen as someone who works with a lot of different brands.
For me, accepting a product, just so I have content for my blog doesn’t sit right with me.
As a person, I have such a huge conscience, which is at times to my own detriment, but I guess it just makes me more real. This post may not make me popular, and I may receive less PR, but quiet frankly – I don’t care!
I’m also just a small time blogger, that 9 times out of 10 purchases my own products to review – which is why you won’t see a lot of the latest and greatest extortionately priced brands on my blog; I have rent to pay after all!
You see, when it comes to questioning integrity, my blog is for us real women and men, that don’t have an abundance of cash to spend. I just want to be able share with you what I think are great products, that deliver results, whilst being at a great price point.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love a luxury product and I do at times splash my cash, but where I can, I like to bring you good drugstore priced products, not just items I’ve received for free.
I make no money from this site, I do it for my love of the industry and I will always be 100% honest and truthful.
