2018 Beauty Trends You Have to Try
Hello, lovelies. Today’s post is all about 2018 beauty trends you have to try, taking inspiration from the catwalks of fashion capitals such as London, Paris and Milan and is brought to you in collaboration with the lovely Scarlet Gratton; a passionate and very talented lifestyle, fashion and health writer.
We hope you enjoy this little article, i’ll now hand over to Scarlet.
Nowadays we tend to turn to beauty gurus and YouTube makeup artists when we want to see what’s new and hot in the makeup and beauty scene. However, most of the times we get the skinny on new products and releases that we then become tempted to purchase. The runways are the actual place where the magic happens and where new trends and techniques come to life. Lucky for us, collections are showcased months ahead of the time we’re ‘supposed’ to rock them, so we essentially get the latest scoop way ahead of time. But of course, who could memorize everything they saw way back in September, right? That’s why a refresher course is almost mandatory as spring is in full swing, and summer will be here before you know it, so let’s dive in and see what kind of face we’ll be flaunting this season.
Where there are high-end shows, there are renowned makeup artists and brands, and one of the most striking looks that will apparently be all the rage this season are freckles. There were times when we used to hide them, but now makeup artists are bending over backwards to create them. If you’ve been blessed with lovely freckles, rock them by using a sheer coverage foundation that will let them show through. In case you don’t have them, well, go to your nearest MAC store and ask the artists to show you how.
We’re not sure whether it’s because of the festival season, but one of the latest beauty crazes seems to be glitter. Lip glosses packed with glitter are back in style, and so are foiled glittery eyeshadows. Even body glitter has made a comeback and everyone is going nuts over Fenty Beauty’s Body Lava and similar products that give intense body glow. Even Gucci had a show in which the faces of the models were covered in glitter. We certainly wouldn’t recommend that you go that crazy, but a little sparkle never hurt anybody, and a touch of glitter does make summer just that much more fun.
Bare it all
There were some extravagant makeup looks on the one hand, and then certain shows caught us off guard by sending bare-faced models down the runway. The message is loud and clear – this season, the emphasis is on healthy and radiant skin, which is why you should invest in great, extra moisturising skincare products. Make sure you have it all in your skincare arsenal – the creams, the lotions, mists, serums, exfoliators – the entire gang should be put to work, so you too can feel confident to rock a bare face knowing that you have nothing to hide. Natural radiance is the best kind after all.
Blue is the warmest colour
Probably sparked by geometrical and square blue shadows spotted on the models during fashion week, the blue lid trend came to life. Many companies, including KKW Beauty, came out with a range of eyeshadow palettes that include a bold blue hue, and beauty gurus jumped right on board. We have to admit, after the ‘warm and toasty’ colour palettes that were overflowing the counters at Sephora, Ulta and other stores, we’re happy to see a touch of a different kind of boldness, and a blue eye is definitely a show-stopper.
In all shapes and forms
It’s not that eyeliner ever left the building, but during the course of the fashion week, a clear message was sent – the retro winged eyeliner is not the only way to go. For instance, at the Erdem show, the cat flick that starts in the centre of the eyelid made an appearance. It had a disconnected vibe to it but still managed to look bold and interesting. At Tom Ford’s show, it was done with a rounded edge, as if it was not so much drawn as ‘stamped’ on the eyes. There were also looks that simply included the liner being drawn above the crease, creating a kind of an oval look, which is definitely not something you want to rock on a daily basis, but it’s a bold party look.
Kiss me hard before you go
Just in case you were wondering what’s happening in the lip department, aside from the glitter-packed lip glosses, we have good news. Nude lips will remain a summer staple, and as for the classic red, it’s still sitting on the throne, but in a slightly modified form. Namely, instead of a precise, lip-lined and then filled in with matte lipstick look, this season we’ll be looking at a soft-focused ‘just kissed’ red lip that looks like it was applied nonchalantly with your finger. It’s definitely kissable, and much easier to achieve than the precise look, so if red lipstick used to scare and frustrate you, this technique will finally get you to fall in love with red as it’s completely effortless and risk-free.
So, with everything said, which look will you be trying out first? Our bet is on the red lips, but it remains to be seen.
